LC circuit with air core inductor

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The natural resonant frequency of an LC oscillator circuit is calculated using the same formula regardless of whether an air core or ferrite core inductor is used. The key formula is \( f = \frac{1}{2\pi\sqrt{LC}} \), where \( L \) is the inductance and \( C \) is the capacitance. The discussion emphasizes that inductance remains constant across different core materials, and it suggests that the original poster may need guidance on how to wind an air core inductor to achieve a specific inductance value.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of LC circuit fundamentals
  • Knowledge of inductance and capacitance
  • Familiarity with resonant frequency calculations
  • Basic skills in winding inductors
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the formula for calculating resonant frequency in LC circuits
  • Learn techniques for winding air core inductors
  • Explore the impact of different core materials on inductance
  • Study the relationship between inductance, capacitance, and frequency in oscillators
USEFUL FOR

Electronics enthusiasts, hobbyists building oscillators, and engineers designing circuits that require precise inductance values will benefit from this discussion.

Hi,

I was just wondering if someone could point in the right direction to find formulas to calculate the natural resonant frequency of an LC oscillator circuit that uses and air core coil rather than a metal one.

Thanks :-)

Its the same formula. Makes no difference whether the coil is air core or ferrite. Inductance is inductance.

Maybe the OP is wondering how to wind an air core inductor in order to get to a target inductance.
