SUMMARY

The discussion clarifies the distinction between terminal buds and leaf apices, confirming that terminal buds are exclusively located at the tips of stems and are absent at leaf apices. The confusion arises from the similarity in appearance between certain leaf types, such as scale leaves in Juniper plants, and actual buds. The teacher's emphasis on this distinction aims to prevent misunderstandings among students regarding plant anatomy.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of plant anatomy terminology
  • Knowledge of the structure and function of terminal buds
  • Familiarity with leaf types, particularly scale leaves
  • Basic botany concepts related to plant growth
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the anatomy of terminal buds in various plant species
  • Explore the differences between leaf types, focusing on scale leaves
  • Study the growth patterns of Juniper plants and their leaf structures
  • Learn about common misconceptions in botany education
USEFUL FOR

Botany students, educators in plant sciences, horticulturists, and anyone interested in understanding plant morphology and anatomy.

My teacher told me that terminal bud is absent on leaf apex. This does not make any sense to me as leaf apex is the part below
leaf apex.png

Why would there be any terminal bud ?As terminal bud is only present at the tip of a stem not at the tip of leaf so my teacher is right in saying that terminal bud is absent on leaf apex but why she even mentioned it as it is clearly evident from definition of terminal bud .
Am I missing any point?

You are right that in the definition of a terminal bud, it occurs at the tip of a stem.

Your teacher is also correct in stating that a terminal bud is absent (does not occur) at the apex of a leaf. Perhaps some past students confused the tip of a leaf with the tip of a stem and she is making sure there is no confusion there. If you still wonder why your teacher mentions this, I would ask her too.

As child, before I got my first X-ray, I used to fantasize that I might have a mirror image anatomy - my heart on the right, my appendix on the right. Why not? (Caveat: I'm not talking about sci-fi molecular-level mirroring. We're not talking starvation because I couldn't process certain proteins, etc.) I'm simpy tlakng about, when a normal zygote divides, it technically has two options which way to form. Oen would expcet a 50:50 split. But we all have our heart on the left and our...
