Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the feasibility of keeping paraffin wax in a liquid state within an aerosol can, with the intention of spraying it to create a solid film upon application. The scope includes practical considerations for formulation and application methods.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Mike inquires about the possibility of maintaining paraffin wax in a liquid state inside an aerosol can for spraying purposes.
  • One participant suggests that keeping the can warm could help maintain the liquid state of paraffin, but notes the high viscosity may complicate the spraying process.
  • Another participant proposes dissolving paraffin in solvents such as butane, hexane, or acetone to facilitate spraying, and asks for clarification on the intended application of the spray.
  • A different participant mentions that spray paraffin wax is commercially available for medical and salon use, indicating that gentle warming is typically required before application, and also notes its use as a type of tire cleaner.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express various ideas about the formulation and application of paraffin wax in aerosol form, but there is no consensus on the best approach or the feasibility of the initial inquiry.

Contextual Notes

There are unresolved questions regarding the specific conditions required for maintaining the liquid state of paraffin and the effectiveness of different solvents in achieving a sprayable formulation.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in DIY formulations, aerosol applications, or those exploring the use of paraffin wax in various contexts may find this discussion relevant.

Hello all, my name is Mike and I'm looking to see if it is possible to keep a paraffin wax liquid inside an aerosol can. Then when sprayed out the wax turns to a solid film. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you for your time-Mike

As long as you keep the can warm enough, the paraffin should stay liquid. However, it is quite viscous, so making a spray can be quite difficult.

You could dissolve it in some solvent. Butane and one or more of the more of the usual suspects (hexane, zylene, MEK, acetone, toluene, ect.) should do. What exactly are you spraying this on?

Spray paraffin wax is available as a medical and salon product . I haven't read all the information but gentle warming seems to be needed before use .

Also sold as one type of tyre cleaner .
