Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the creation of a "top to bottom glow" candle using paraffin wax. Participants explore methods, materials, and specific techniques related to candle making, particularly focusing on achieving translucency in the wax for illumination purposes.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant seeks advice on making a "top to bottom glow" candle from paraffin wax.
  • A link to a patent is shared, although its relevance is questioned by another participant.
  • Another participant suggests using translucent candle wax and provides a link to a resource about double pouring techniques.
  • It is noted that paraffin wax in its natural state is translucent, but many additives can make it opaque.
  • A participant expresses a desire to replicate a specific candle made by a now-defunct company, indicating that they have a sample for reference.
  • There is a mention of ordering wax to experiment with the proposed methods over the weekend.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants have not reached a consensus on the best method to create the desired candle, and multiple approaches and ideas are being discussed without resolution.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not fully explored the implications of using different additives or the specific properties of the wax they intend to use, leaving some assumptions unaddressed.

I would guess you need translucent candle wax. Try googling that. Found..

One important note is that wax in its "natural state" is as translucent as you can get. Most additives are designed to give the wax an opaque finish.

Great input-thank you all. in response to DaveC, I am trying to duplicate a transluscent, paraffin "top to bottom glow" candle that was made by a company named Bull Frog in Charlavoix, Michigan. They have since gone out of business. To Zoobyshoe I am trying to illuminate with paraffin wax only. I know it can be done because I still have one. CWATTERS is the closest yet (I think) to what I am trying to do. I will order the wax and try over the weekend. I appreciate all your help!
