AI Thread Summary
A man in Hayden, Washington, severed and partially cooked his own hand, claiming he did so to remove the "mark of the beast" and escape divine punishment. He used a circular saw and microwaved the severed limb. This incident sparked discussions about the literal interpretation of biblical verses, particularly Matthew 5:30, which suggests drastic actions to avoid sin. Participants debated the implications of such interpretations, questioning whether the man was following religious teachings correctly. The conversation also included dark humor and references to cooking, highlighting the absurdity of the situation while addressing the serious nature of mental health and religious extremism.

religious nuttiness reaches a new low (well I guess it isn't just religious...):
HAYDEN, Wash., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A Hayden, Wash., man who severed and partially cooked his own hand reportedly told police he did so to remove the mark of the beast from his body.

The man, whose name was not released -- but who was described by police as in his mid-20s -- allegedly removed his hand with a circular saw and then put his severed limb in the microwave to escape the wrath of God, The Spokane (Was.) Spokesman-Review reported Wednesday.

There is a similar story that occurred a month ago in India that fits this scenario. Thieves cut off a Holyman's leg who claimed had healing powers in that leg. Not only that, but the thieves made off with it.

Crazy stuff.

schizophrenic?

He's just following the rules, isn't he? Shouldn't all of us be doing this too? I mean it's right there in unequivocal black and white.

Mathiew 5:30

And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

And if it offend thee from a distance, reach for it with thine remaining virtuous hand,
And cast it into a hell of blood-boiling microwaves...

...cook on high power for 17 minutes or until crispy.

You can crisp things in a microwave?

And Gokul,
that's disgusting.

The person did not follow it enough.

Matthew 5:29

"If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell."

But wait, this might be one of those "symbolic" verses

It was snack time:

finger food

"Finger Foods:
Eating your hands is one of life's best guilty-pleasures—that's why these appetizers and snacks are such fun. Serve just one or showcase an assortment; either way they're sinfully good"

There are many people that insist the Bible must be interpreted literally, yet verses like these make me wonder how they could possibly think this?!

The answer is simple: They don't bring it up.

You know, Pepperidge Farm Brand Microwave Chicken Pot Pies actually get really crispy when cooked in a microwave!

So, if you forget how to make severed hands crispy in a microwave, just know that...
