Matlab clones - Graphic interface?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the availability of graphical user interface (GUI) options for Matlab clones, particularly for users who may not be comfortable with command line interfaces. The focus is on identifying free software alternatives that provide a user-friendly interface.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a need for Matlab clones with a GUI due to difficulties with high-level mathematics and command line usage.
  • Another participant mentions that Ubuntu has a GUI for a Matlab clone called Octave.
  • A different participant notes that qtOctave is an active project and provides a link to its website, suggesting it may be a viable option.
  • One participant indicates they are limited to using Windows XP, which may affect their options.
  • Another participant clarifies that Octave is available on all major operating systems and provides a link for downloading it.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that Octave is a potential solution, but there is no consensus on the availability of other Matlab clones with GUIs or their suitability for users with specific operating system constraints.

Contextual Notes

Some participants mention specific operating system limitations, which may restrict the applicability of suggested software. There is also uncertainty regarding the current status of other Matlab clones in development.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals seeking free software alternatives to Matlab with graphical interfaces, particularly those who may struggle with command line operations or have specific operating system requirements.

Matlab "clones" - Graphic interface?

I am not into high level maths, but struggling with them from time to time when trying to solve some (for me) unusual problems.

Is it any of the so called "Matlab clones" available with GUI? Command line is something that would add an extra concern to my current difficulties.

I just would like to know about free software with user graphic interface. (I have the awful feeling that there is not...).

Thanks for any reply.
