Max Shear Stress Calculation for EN 19 Steel Shafts

how can i work out the maximum shear stress of EN 19 alloy steel? i need this in order to work out the minimum shaft diameter that will be capable of withstanding the torque applied to it.

Most steels you can pretty well estimate the shear strength as .5 $$\sigma_{y}$$ according to max shear stress theory or .577 $$\sigma_{y}$$ for distortion energy theory.
