In summary, microeconomics focuses on individual economic units while macroeconomics looks at the economy as a whole. It is possible to learn the basics of microeconomics in 5 weeks, but mastering the subject may take longer. Calculus is used in microeconomics to analyze economic variables and their relationships. Learning calculus 3 in 10 weeks is possible but may be challenging. Effective study strategies for learning microeconomics or calculus 3 in a short amount of time include setting a schedule, practicing regularly, seeking help, and actively engaging with the material.

Normal semesters here are 15 weeks. The summer sessions here are 10 weeks; there's a 10 week session and they can be split into two 5 week sessions.

For the 10 week session I'm taking:
diff eq (4 credits)
health (1 credit)

And microeconomics(3 credits) for the first 5 weeks of the summer

I've never taken an economics class so I'm not sure how difficult it will be. If I take microeconomics as my elective it'll have to be in the first 5 week session of the summer.

Or I could switch the 5 week microeconomics with a 10 week calc 3.

So I guess my question is, would a 5 week microeconomics be harder than a 10 week calc 3? Or would diff eq and calc 3 at the same time not be a good idea in 10 weeks?

I would recommend considering a few factors before making a decision.

Firstly, it's important to understand the workload and difficulty level of each course. Microeconomics and Calculus 3 are both challenging subjects, so it would be wise to assess how much time and effort you are willing and able to devote to each course. You can do this by looking at the syllabus or talking to students who have taken these courses before.

Secondly, it's important to consider your own strengths and weaknesses in these subjects. If you feel more confident in math and have a good understanding of Calculus 1 and 2, then taking Calculus 3 may be a better option for you. On the other hand, if you are interested in economics and have good analytical skills, then Microeconomics may be a good choice.

Additionally, it's important to consider the structure of the courses. A 5-week course may have a more condensed and intense workload compared to a 10-week course. This may be challenging for some students, so it's important to evaluate if you are able to handle the pace of a shorter course.

Lastly, it's important to consider your overall academic goals and prioritize which course is more important for your academic and career path. If you are planning on pursuing a career in a field that heavily relies on economics, then taking Microeconomics may be more beneficial for you in the long run.

In summary, there is no clear answer to whether a 5-week Microeconomics course would be harder than a 10-week Calculus 3 course. It ultimately depends on your strengths, workload, and academic goals. I would recommend carefully considering these factors before making a decision. It may also be helpful to speak with your academic advisor for guidance.
