Naming "Hot Stuff"...

All of you who know me and the ones who follow my posts but don't know me, I would like to ask your humble advice and input for seven hot pepper sauces, 2 mild, 2 medium, 1 hot, and one extremely hot. Sounds easy right ? Not quite.

I want names that the unscientific general public might be aware of, most likely not. They have to be reflect the intensities, mild, medium, hot, extremely hot in physics terms, one to three words, maybe four tops. This should be an interesting exercise. If I decide to use your name, I will send you a free sample of the sauce that you helped to name. Your feedback on it's taste will be most appreciated, of course.

Hi Insanity, nice name BTW, it fits this thread, Physics terms.

Rhody...

Is it just me, less than a year ago, about 100 folks would read most every new thread on most PF forums, but in GD especially, that number seems to have doubled, a good thing IMHO. More minds to apply to the task at hand.

You could call one the Amy Mainzer (physicist for JPL). She's pretty hot!

Try picante, muy picante, más picante, super picante, llameante picante.

Or look for Thai, Malay and Indonesian expressions.

Take a look at what Dave's Insanity, Mad Dog and Blair's have done, and don't repeat.

There's Insanity hot sauce, Megadeath hot sauce, After Death hot sauce . . . .

Maybe label them on Scoville scale, e.g., 800 K, 2 M, 16 M - as in Rhody's 16 M Hot Sauce.

Be original!

Astro is right. Don't copy Dave or others, or you'll be on speaking terms with a LOT of lawyers.

Descriptions:
Extreme = free quarks, you have been warned
Extreme 2 = the day after, you WILL have which path info, guaranteed
Extreme 3 = Scoville units not applicable, see Thermodynamic Temperature scale
Extreme 4 = degenerate matter inside
Extreme 5 = Fire needs fuel, oxygen, and heat? NOT TRUE, evidence inside
Extreme 6 = Doubt cold fusion? EAT THIS and find out.

Names:
Quark Sauce

I have a bottle. I had to sign a waiver (of liability) to buy it. Personally, don't think it's that hot. I've tried it straight on my tongue, and I wasn't impressed. I've had much hotter (picanteier).

Maybe a play on THERMITE might work.

It certainly could. I was just trying to stick to physics-related terms of sorts.

Pretty clever root, I wanted something on a frequency scale rising, you did not fail to disappoint. Any other ideas, anyone else ?

Mega-, Giga-, Tera-, Peta-, Exa-, Zetta-, Yotta- (7 terms)

-bite, -hot, -picante, -fire

Gigabite/Terabite would be a play on Gigabyte/Terabyte

Nice, I like this slowly creeping up on a solution, but those are adjectives, not physics related. Maybe a hybrid, physics & non physics for both worlds.

Try some Latin - incendia (like fire on one building), ignis (as a flame, in a lighter, when it's burning), flamma (as a light, in a candle)

I am surprised no one suggested the infamous Quark Gluon Plasma, a favorite of mine.
I like the latin angle too, for those so included. After a few sessions with "The Bottle" I am sure I will come up with unique titles, that will survive a ficticious name search for naming the sauces. I want them to reflect a scientific appreciation, more important, to be one of a kind.

Sorry Evo, that name is already taken, many common ones are, that's why I am taking great care to come up with ones that convey science and heat, what a combination, huh ?!

Or maybe some alliteration? Here's some suggestions [with a handy temperature guide]:

Milds:
1. Millikelvin Mildness [T ~ 10^-3 K]
2. Radiowave Red [radio wave energies ~ 10^-3K]
3. Paramagnetic Pulp [typical paramagnetic interaction energies ~ 10^-1K]
4. Microwave Moderation [CMBR, for instance ~ 10^0 K]

Mediums:
1. Naughty Nitrogen [boiling point ~10^2 K]
2. Infrared Idiocy [typical IR energies ~ 10^2 K]
3. Bunsen Burner [typical flame temperature ~ 10^3 K]
4. Fermi's Fire [Fermi Temperature for common metals and semiconductors ~ 10^4 K]
5. Solar Sauciness [photosphere temperature ~ 10^4 K]

Hots:
1. X-cruciating X-rays [soft x-ray energies ~ 10^5 K, hard x-rays ~ 10^8 K]
2. Coronal Craziness [temperature of corona ~ 10^6 K]
3. Funky Fusion [small nucleii fuse at ~10^7 K, larger ones at ~ 10^8 K]
4. Supernova Strong [T ~ 10^10 K]

Extremely-hots:
1. Hunting [STRIKE]Hardons[/STRIKE] Hadrons [Fermi melting point of hadrons ~ 10^12 K]
2. Annihilating Anti-protons [10^15 K]
3. Certainly CERN [energies at the LHC ~ 10^18 K]
4. Cosmic Concoction [typical cosmic ray events ~ 10^22+ K]
5. Petrified Planck [Planck Temperature ~ 10^32 K]

PS, for Rhody: Hunting Hadrons is also a reference to the QGP

Edit: Oops! Undid the machinations of a dirty mind - thanks to Panda.

Thanks to all who are working on this, myself and two other guys are going to sit down in the near future and work on a business name and sauce names, they may have other ideas, but I want to run the PF collective's mindset by them. work We are going to have a get together and nice food and drink and in that relaxed atmosphere, hopefully will produce our best work.

If anyone out there young or old is considering starting a small partnership/business, and wants to understand the commitment, work ethic it takes to succeed, I will give you read access to my google calendar of activities. All you need is a google account, and that I be familiar with you if I don't already know you. PM me if interested.

I am sure you will be amazed at what it takes, it can seem overwhelming, but if done step by step with common sense it can be done. Stick around and I will prove it to you. I will succeed and show others it can be done and how to go about doing it (with mistakes and everything that goes with it as well).

Rhody...

P.S. I like your contributions Gokul very creative, and hey, stop quibbling over spelling mistakes, well forget that, it makes me laugh, so carry on.

Good luck, Rhody. I've been in business for 14 years now and I can barely even remember what it was like to work for someone else; nor do I want to! There is nothing like working for yourself.

I have been giving this some thought (less any alcohol in my system, hehe...). The name for my partnership business should capture a well known landmark, in this case, famous Newport, RI, known for its rich sailing heritage and beautiful mansions, and picturesque downtown shopping and eateries.

Let's expand this thread to include a name for the business as well, and if a mentor following would be so kind as to rename it to: "Naming "Hot Stuff" and "Hot Stuff Business". I would appreciate it.

There are many local businesses that do that now, "http://newportstorm.com/index2.php", "Newport Vineyards", etc...

The name should try to capture a sense of understated elegance and passion, roll off the tongue and be memorable, (spanish words immediately come to mind). Thanks PF collective for your input(s).

So you're going for the Northern coastal community scientific slant, for a traditionally Southern food product? I'm not seeing continuity in the theme here.

For me it is all about brainstorming, trying to balance what is it important to stay true to who I am with, what will unfamiliar consumer recognize and possibly try, never having knowledge of it before.

People identify Newport with fun great food and beautiful scenery, sauces go with food, right ? Here is a possible wrapper for the line, with logos, business name and product name on top. Maybe a certain color red = coolest to violet = hottest. I am sure that color scheme will confuse some folks.

I don't think Newport makes a good connection for a hot sauce, but maybe you could name the varieties after storms, including a nor'easter. Hurricane, gale, tornado, lightning, thunder, tsunami, cyclone. You don't want names or labels too obscure to the general public if you plan to market the product.

Moonbear,

True, everyone makes valid points, and from these a short list will emerge, then a little more food, drink, followed by lively discussion, debate, and then a vote, even if the candidates chosen are not the other parties favorites, then a thumbs sideways, "I can live with this" vote will suffice.
