Neutral axis vs microstrain plot

Click For Summary
The discussion centers on calculating the distance from the bottom of a girder using strain data from four different strain gauges, along with elapsed time and neutral axis information. Participants seek clarification on the meaning of strain measurements in "lb" and the concept of a neutral axis in relation to strain gauges. The neutral axis is critical for understanding how strain varies across a beam's cross-section. The conversation emphasizes the importance of accurately interpreting strain data to create relevant plots. Understanding these concepts is essential for effective structural analysis and design.

hi, i got a list of data containing strain for four different strain gauge, lb, and time elapsed. is there anyway i can calculate the distance from bottom of a girder using the given data to plot something like this? i have also been given the neutral axis for each strain gauge.

Why is a strain gauge measured in "lb"?

What is a neutral axis for a strain gauge?

What mathematics software should engineering students use? Is it correct that much of the engineering industry relies on MATLAB, making it the tool many graduates will encounter in professional settings? How does SageMath compare? It is a free package that supports both numerical and symbolic computation and can be installed on various platforms. Could it become more widely used because it is freely available? I am an academic who has taught engineering mathematics, and taught the...
