AI Thread Summary
Microsoft is introducing a new anti-spam measure that requires email senders to solve a 'puzzle' before sending messages, which takes approximately 10-20 seconds. This approach aims to limit the volume of emails sent, capping it at around 8,000 messages per day. The time investment is placed on the sender, potentially complicating the process for users who wish to email multiple recipients. The discussion also touches on the effectiveness of probabilistic spam filters, suggesting that their widespread use could lead to the bankruptcy of spammers.

Microsoft came with a new scheme to slow spammers from sending millions of e-mails. It sounds strange to me, but they want to implement a 'puzzle' which needs to be solved, before the email can be sent. This takes about 10-20 secs. This time investment is on the sender's side, and thus the amount of email that can be sent at a time is limited. 8000 messages a day at most, apparently.

I wonder what happens if I want to sent an email to a bunch of friends of mine, I'd have to wait one minute for three friends? Nice..

I always wondered what the D stood for.. :P

Did you know that if anybody used bysononian(probabalistic, sp?) spam filters (or any), all the spammers would go out of buisiness; ie Bankrupt (read: No spam).

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Sorry if 'Profile Badge' is not the correct term. I have an MS 365 subscription and I've noticed on my Word documents the small circle with my initials in it is sometimes different in colour document to document (it's the circle at the top right of the doc, that, when you hover over it it tells you you're signed in; if you click on it you get a bit more info). Last night I had four docs with a red circle, one with blue. When I closed the blue and opened it again it was red. Today I have 3...
