AI Thread Summary
A syntax error when attempting to calculate expressions like 1 + 10^3.9 typically indicates incorrect command entry on the calculator. Users are encouraged to refer to the manual, particularly pages E-13 and E-14, which detail how to perform exponent operations. A common mistake involves the method of entering exponents; for instance, while older calculators may allow direct input of exponentiation, newer models require a combination of keys, such as using [shift] followed by [log] to input exponents correctly. Understanding these differences can resolve syntax errors and facilitate accurate calculations.

If I try to do 1+ 10^3.9, for example, I just get 'syntax error'. Argh!

Help?

If you are getting a syntax error, more than likely you are entering the commands to perform 1+10^3.9 incorrectly.

Tell us exactly which keystrokes you are pressing one at a time.

Edit: Or you can try to figure out what you are doing wrong in the manual. Glancing at it, it looks like pages E-13 and E-14 explain how to perform exponents on your calculator.

I figured out what I was doing wrong- in my old calculator, I could just press, for example [10^x][5], but on this new calculator, you need to press [shift][log].

Still not sure what the difference is, but it does what I need it to do, so I'm happy now. Thanks for your help :)

Well, the date has now passed, and Windows 10 is no longer supported. Hopefully, the readers of this forum have done one of the many ways this issue can be handled. If not, do a YouTube search and a smorgasbord of solutions will be returned. What I want to mention is that I chose to use a debloated Windows from a debloater. There are many available options, e.g., Chris Titus Utilities (I used a product called Velotic, which also features AI to prevent your computer from overheating etc...
I've been having problems for the past few weeks with the display on my Dell computer. I bought the computer new back in 2019 or so, which makes it about 6 years old. My monitor is a 27" HP monitor that I bought for another computer (an HP Pavilion), recently demised, back in about 2012 or 2013. As far as I can tell, the computer, which is running a 10-core Xeon Scalable processor, is functioning as it should. The first symptom was that the screen would go dark, which I would attempt to...
