AI Thread Summary
Users are experiencing issues with posts disappearing and receiving timeout messages, leading to lost text. Many suggest drafting posts externally to avoid this problem. Some users have found that refreshing the page with F5 can restore their content, while others inquire about browser and OS configurations to identify if the issue is widespread. The discussion highlights that the problem may not be universal, with some users reporting no issues on their main computers. A recommended solution includes using the Firefox add-on Lazarus to recover lost text in the future.

In the last couple of days two or three times it has happened that after writing out a post taking some time, not enormous, and trouble, enough, the posting box went blank and there was some timed-out message, and I could not recover my text.

I have not had this before nor changed my habits.

In practice I will now have to remember to draft my posts outside the site and then paste them so the onsite operation is brief.

But it would be better if there is any site bug it be fixed .

Is it just me or my computer? Is it happening to anyone else?

Browser & OS please, together with version.

Not that I have any ideas, but at least knowing the browser/OS combination we can see if your problems are reproducible on the same configuration.

Have you loged out recently and forgotten to check the "remember me" box?

I have had that happen to me, I use IE and hitting F5 restored the post.

Never on my main computer where this is happening.
However I have also accessed PF from my i-pad in these days with and without remember me, I don't know what I did! :blushing:

However knowing about this F5 I will remember and try if it happens again, thank you.

So far it seems it is not a general problem.

The firefox add-on Lazarus can recover posts (or any other text you write / forms you fill out) for you.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
This came up in my job today (UXP). Never thought to raise it here on PF till now. Hyperlinks really should be underlined at all times. PF only underlines them when they are rolled over. Colour alone (especially dark blue/purple) makes it difficult to spot a hyperlink in a large block of text (or even a small one). Not everyone can see perfectly. Even if they don't suffer from colour deficiency, not everyone has the visual acuity to distinguish two very close shades of text. Hover actions...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
