Noble Gas Electron Configurations for Ions: Na+, H-, O2-

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion confirms that the ions Na+, H-, and O2- possess noble gas electron configurations. Specifically, Na+ and O2- both achieve the electron configuration of Neon, while H- achieves the configuration of Helium. This conclusion is validated by the participants, indicating a clear understanding of electron configurations in relation to noble gases.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electron configurations
  • Knowledge of ionic charge and its effect on electron count
  • Familiarity with the periodic table and noble gases
  • Basic principles of atomic structure
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the electron configurations of other common ions
  • Learn about the periodic trends in ionization energy and electron affinity
  • Explore the concept of isoelectronic species and their significance
  • Study the implications of noble gas configurations in chemical reactivity

Homework Statement

state whether or not these ions have electron configurations of a noble gas: Na+, H-,O2-

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

I said yes to all three. Because Na+ and O2- has electron configuration of Neon. H- has electron configuration of Helium.
If I'm wrong, please correct me and explain to me about it. Thank you so much for yall time!
