Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the concept of perpetual motion, specifically whether it can be achieved in space. Participants explore theoretical ideas related to energy generation and the feasibility of such concepts in a space environment.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant proposes the idea of connecting large wires to a machine in space that could create a constant force and send energy back to Earth, expressing a desire for speculative discussion on this concept.
  • Another participant argues that interacting with a moving object in space to draw energy would slow it down, thus negating the possibility of perpetual motion.
  • A different participant reiterates that there is no resistance in space, emphasizing that drawing energy from a moving object would also result in a loss of energy, further asserting that perpetual motion cannot be achieved.
  • Several posts express fascination with the idea of perpetual motion while also acknowledging the limitations and challenges associated with such concepts.
  • Some participants note that discussions about perpetual motion machines (PMMs) and free energy schemes are not permitted in the forum, referencing forum rules and guidelines.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that perpetual motion cannot be achieved, particularly in the context of space. However, there are multiple competing views regarding the specifics of energy generation and the feasibility of various proposed methods.

Contextual Notes

Participants reference the limitations of energy generation methods in space and the inherent challenges of perpetual motion concepts, but do not resolve these issues or provide definitive conclusions.

I am completely fascinated with it, but my only question is if perpetual motion is achievable in space why don't we connect huge wire's to a machine lifted into space that constantly creates a giant force and never stops then is converted and sent down to earth?

I am not sure if I shed my idea in the best light, but for those who understand what I am trying to say could you please speculate with me I would love to see your thoughts.

If you interact with a moving object in space so you can draw energy from it you'll slow it down in the process. So no perpetual motion there either. If you could wrap a coil in space around Earth you could use the rotation of Earth and it's magnetic field to produce large amounts of energy but just think of the size (cost) of the project, and it still wouldn't be a perpetual motion device. There are many crazy ways to produce energy but only a hand full of them are cost efficient.

Haha thanks so much =]

We do not discuss PMMs or Free Energy schemes at the PF. Here are two good links for understanding why PMMs and Free Energy cannot work:
