AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a photo contest themed around the color red, where participants must submit a digital photo featuring red as the prominent color. Key rules include accepting only one submission per member, requiring photos to be resized to specific dimensions, and prohibiting extensive editing beyond brightness and contrast adjustments. Participants share their entries and engage in light-hearted banter about the photos, including comments on depth of field and color perception. There are mentions of personal anecdotes related to the photos, such as a participant's grandson helping select a photo of a toy car. The conversation also touches on the challenge of voting due to the variety of shades presented, with some members humorously questioning the color accuracy of certain submissions. The deadline for submissions is emphasized, urging members not to miss it. Overall, the thread showcases creativity, community interaction, and a shared appreciation for photography.

Seeing Red

For this week's contest, your photos must have the color red as the prominent color. The object in red must be the main subject of your picture.

Zz.

Contest Rules:

1. Any digital photo or digitally-scanned photo relevant to the theme will be accepted within the contest period. In case there's a gray area, or you're not sure if the picture is suitable, check with me first.

2. Please resize your digital photo to no more than 650 x 490 or 490 x 650 pixels. You may also crop your picture if you wish. You are also allowed to adjust the brightness and contrast of your picture but these should not dramatically alter the look of the picture. But other than those, any form of picture editing or modification is not allowed. This is a photo contest, not a picture editing/special effect contest. You may add a watermark or your name/nickname to the photo for identification purposes.

3. Upload your photos to any of the photo servers such as imageshack or photobucket. Then post it the relevant contest thread and link your picture using the img command. PM me if you do not know how.

4. Only ONE picture per member per contest. Once a picture is posted, it cannot be changed other than a total withdrawl by that member from that week's photo contest. Exceptions will be made for modification to comply with the rules, such as resizing.

5. At the end of the contest period, I will open a poll and every PF member can vote for the picture they like best.

6. Note that in case we have a large number of entries, I will do the polling in more than one thread. If that's the case, you can vote in each of the polling threads. The photos will be assigned in the polling threads in the order they were submitted.

7. These pictures must be something that you took, not something taken off someone else's photo albums or taken by someone else. I have no way of checking if you did this, so we'll go by the honor system.

8. You can use a picture only once. Once it is used in a contest, it cannot be reused in another contest.

9. Please post only pictures meant for submission in this thread.

Little known fact- most digital camera sensors are as sensitive to near-infrared as they are to visible light. Manufacturers build in a filter within the camera that removes most of the IR before it reaches the sensor, but you can use a filter to take out nearly all the visible light and use along exposure to take a shot with the remaining IR. Pictures vary from camera to camera and between differnt filters, but mine comes out predominantly red.

Not sure how it is being displayed on everyone else's screen, but this picture looks more orange'ish to me than red.

not much of a blur job on your phone number. I'll give you a call, soon as I figure out the area code. ps I'm usually my busiest between 2 and 4 am. I hope that's not a problem.

Drat! The WVU v. Rutgers game will be too late for this contest. Then again, I might get lynched if they ever caught WVU faculty hobnobbing with the RU fans on game day.

All these pictures are awesome, as usual.

I think I'll post my little tomatoes.

Shiny, red, and sparkly, this one is dedicated to Kurdt. :-p

Yes, they are grape tomatoes, wonderful taste. I wish I could put some in everyone's computer. :approve:

Too bad I ate those two before the third turned red, it would have fit the theme better. :-p

I'm wondering about the amount of colorblindness in PF viewers. That's a couple of not so reddish red pictures or is it me?

It is important that we understand what it takes to get this country back on track and the private sector the economic gains that the private sector backing up the American spirit and the values that we share as Americans and spurs jobs and wealth for all Americans and don't call me.

Redness is not always black-and-white. There are shades of gray involved.

Ok. I don't seem to be able to edit my post, so you'll have to remove it for me.

Unless you have a different picture to submit, we can leave it as it is and let the voting members decide if it is "red" or "orange".

All of the flowers are so pretty!

I love matthyaouw's picture too. Ack, it's so hard to choose!

hypatia's crime scene is hilarious!

The voting is going to be tough, indeed. Not just because of of the great photos, but seeing red for so long, it will take your eyes some time to adjust to normal. :bugeye:

One more flower. Our Hibiscus were way late this year, and small to boot. This guy is only about 7" across. I got a tomato shot also, looks TOO much like Evo's, yes they are sweet!

You have less than 2 days left to submit a photo for this contest. Don't miss the deadline or you'll be seeing red.

Just to clarify, I certainly wasn't trying to fool anyone with the picture of the die cast scale model of a 1937 Buick coupe. I even included model in the photo I.D http://img394.imageshack.us/img394/3331/1000703jpg modelzr0.jpg

My seven year old grandson was with me last weekend. I asked him to find something red that I could take a picture of. He looked at the shelf and grabbed the model.

I took about 12 pictures and let him decide which one to post. LOL at that point I was locked into posting it because the little twerp knows how to bring up the forum and look at the Pictures.
