Programs Physics Degree without A2 maths?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around a student in Year 14 who is studying A2 Physics, A2 Chemistry, and a full A2 mathematics course while also managing an A2 in applied mathematics. The student expresses concern about balancing the workload and fears that focusing on full A2 mathematics may hinder performance in other subjects. They inquire whether switching to AS Core mathematics would still allow for university admission to a Physics program, given that their applied mathematics covers similar content. Responses emphasize the importance of A-level mathematics for university physics courses, suggesting that the student contact admissions tutors to clarify how their applied mathematics qualification would be viewed. The student plans to reach out to potential universities for guidance.

Hi All

Background info first: I`m currently in Year 14, studying A2 Physics and A2 Chemistry. I am also studying a full A2 course (AS and A2 Simultaneously) in one year. I have an A2 in applied mathematics at Grade A, which includes Calculus, Hypothesis testing, Data Analysis and Algebraic manipulation. I am applying to study an Undergraduate Degree in Physics.

I am currently struggling to stay on top of the work flow from the 4 subjects, and am worried that by studying the full A2 maths, I may not achieve the grades in the other two subjects. If I were to study only AS Core mathematics, would I still be considered for a place at a university, seeing as the applied mathematics covers a large amount of the same material?

I did not do A2 maths and in order to study physics at university I have to do a foundation year offered by my university.

It is highly unlikely that you will be accepted onto a university physics course without A-level maths or an equivalent.

Get in touch with some admissions tutors and inquire about how they view your applied mathematics qualification.

Thanks for the advice, I`ll call some of my choices tonight and see what they say :)

guys i am currently studying in computer science engineering [1st yr]. i was intrested in physics when i was in high school. due to some circumstances i chose computer science engineering degree. so i want to incoporate computer science engineering with physics and i came across computational physics. i am intrested studying it but i dont know where to start. can you guys reccomend me some yt channels or some free courses or some other way to learn the computational physics.
I'm going to make this one quick since I have little time. Background: Throughout my life I have always done good in Math. I almost always received 90%+, and received easily upwards of 95% when I took normal-level HS Math courses. When I took Grade 9 "De-Streamed" Math (All students must take "De-Streamed" in Canada), I initially had 98% until I got very sick and my mark had dropped to 95%. The Physics teachers and Math teachers talked about me as if I were some sort of genius. Then, an...
I am currently in the second (and final) year of my MS in Physics. I've just started my research, which focuses on identifying Dark Matter through Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) extensions. My supervisor has directed me to learn model building using FeynRules and subsequent calculations via MadGraph or other simulators. I've successfully built models for QED and QCD, and I am now working on Weak Interactions, Electroweak theory, and symmetry breaking. My immediate goal for the next few...
