AI Thread Summary
Organizing a school trip to a scientific research facility in Europe presents numerous exciting options beyond CERN. Suggested locations include the Royal Institute of Science, Manchester University, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, and the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh. Other notable mentions are Göttingen University and Observatory, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, and Lund University with its Ringhals Nuclear Power Station. Additionally, the ITER facility in Paris and the Arts et Métiers museum, which showcases historical scientific instruments, are recommended as must-visit sites for students interested in science. These destinations aim to inspire young people and enhance their understanding of various scientific fields.

In Paris don't miss http://www.arts-et-metiers.net/. There are tons of instruments many of which are originals from the past including instruments used by Lavoisier, etc. Many students visit it. IMHO it's a must-visit place for any science student.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...

Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
