AI Thread Summary
Instant email notifications for forum posts can be achieved by subscribing to threads, which automatically enrolls users for updates when they post. Users can also adjust personal settings to receive notifications for all subscribed threads. However, there is currently no option for instant notifications on new threads within a specific forum. An alternative method is to subscribe to the forum's RSS feed and use an aggregator like Feedburner for updates. Overall, the existing options may meet the user's needs with some exploration.

Yes, you can select in your personal options to be notified by email to any posts in every thread to which you have subscribed. When you post in a thread yourself, you have automatically subscribed.

In other words, the forum already does what you want, you just haven't explored the options.

EDIT -- See Greg's post below.

Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
