Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around how to plot graphs in Excel, specifically focusing on functions of x and y. It includes aspects of homework assistance and practical application of Excel features for graphing mathematical functions.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant outlines a method for plotting by creating a row of y values and a column of x values, suggesting the creation of a table for f(x,y).
  • Another participant provides specific instructions for using Excel 2010 and Excel 2003 to create surface charts.
  • An example is given where x and y range from 0 to 2π in increments of 0.1, with specific functions defined for g and h.
  • A later reply requests more detailed steps for the process of plotting in Excel.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the method for plotting graphs in Excel, but there is a request for further clarification and detailed steps, indicating that the discussion is not fully resolved.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include potential missing assumptions about the familiarity with Excel and the specific versions being discussed, as well as the need for clarity on the functions involved.

Who May Find This Useful

Make a row of of y values and a column of x values
Make a table of f(x,y)
(Excel 2010:) Insert tab | Other Charts | Surface
(Excel 2003:) Click Chart wizard | Surface

Example: x and y from 0 to ##2\pi## in steps of 0.1. ##\ \ g = \sin(2x/\pi),\ \ h = \cos(3y/\pi),\ f = g * h ##
