Quantum Mechanics and Transcendental Medition

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the relationship between quantum mechanics (QM) and transcendental meditation (TM), exploring whether claims made by a speaker connecting the two are valid. Participants express varying levels of familiarity with quantum mechanics and the specific claims being made.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions the validity of a speaker's claims linking QM and TM, specifically noting three points made by the speaker regarding the unified field and its connection to TM.
  • Another participant dismisses the claims outright, labeling them as "horse hooey" without engaging with the specifics.
  • A participant mentions the speaker's credentials, highlighting that he is a PhD from Harvard, but expresses skepticism about the content of his claims.
  • Concerns are raised about the speaker's assertion that TM can prevent and cure all diseases, which is deemed false by another participant.
  • Humor is introduced with a comment about "quantum guitar," suggesting a light-hearted take on the discussion.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally disagree on the validity of the claims linking QM and TM, with some outright rejecting the ideas presented while others express uncertainty or skepticism about specific points.

Contextual Notes

There are unresolved assumptions regarding the definitions of the unified field and the validity of claims made about TM. The discussion reflects a lack of consensus on the relationship between the two topics.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in the intersection of quantum mechanics and alternative practices, as well as those examining the credibility of claims made by speakers in academic contexts.

I don't really know quantum mechanics, so I need your opinion. This guy is relating quantum mechanics to transcendental meditation. Is it possible that what he is saying is valid? (talk about QM finished at about 2:50)

Without even clicking on the link, I know that this is nothing but horse hooey. Pay it no mind.

The only connection made between QM and TM is the following. I am paraphrasing.
1. The unified field is the unification of the 4 known forces.
2. Scientists have discovered the unified field.
3. TM is the direct experience of the unified field.

The rest of his talk is about other matters. Point 1 is valid in the sense that you could define the unified field that way. Point 2 is not valid. Scientists are still working on that one. Point 3 is so vague that its validity is irrelevant.

I play quantum guitar.

Problem is, he is a PhD from Harvard. But the REAL problem is, he talked about the same thing in the same way in a video that was taped in (and coordinated by) Berkley University, here is the link:

Now, after I was searching for the video on youtube, I also found these (I didn't watch, yet:)

I'm with Vanadium, it's horse hooey.

Ahahaha, he has diagrams with moving red arrows, I'm convinced now!

His claim that TM can prevent and cure all disease is false. Sorry, but links to claims like this aren't allowed here.
