Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the search for video resources that explain quantum mechanics, particularly at an introductory level similar to Khan Academy, but with a focus on interactive and problem-solving approaches rather than traditional lectures.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a desire for interactive video resources for learning quantum mechanics beyond introductory material.
  • Another participant suggests that the audience for advanced quantum mechanics may be limited, making it less viable for businesses to produce such content.
  • A participant clarifies that they are specifically looking for resources at the level of Griffiths' textbook on quantum mechanics.
  • It is noted that MIT OpenCourseWare offers video lectures for introductory quantum mechanics, which some find helpful.
  • A participant shares a YouTube channel they consider a good resource for future quantum mechanics students.
  • Another participant mentions a series of video lectures by Professor James Binney, highlighting their focus on the mathematical development of quantum mechanics and its physical implications.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the availability of interactive resources, with some suggesting existing options while others express skepticism about their viability.

Contextual Notes

Participants have varying definitions of what constitutes "interactive" learning resources, and there is a lack of clarity on the specific needs of learners beyond introductory quantum mechanics.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals seeking video resources for learning quantum mechanics, particularly at an introductory level, may find this discussion relevant.

Hello,

I was wondering if there exists some videos that explain quantum mechanics. Something similar to Khan Academy, but that website only has introductory material. I am not looking for online lectures, but more like Khan Academy or some sort of step by step problem solving skills that is more interactive.

Thanks

I think it may be tough to find because your audience if quite small after intro QM. It may not make business sense to make available. The MIT Courseware has advanced topics, but I wouldn't say they are interactive.

To be clear, I am talking about introduction to quantum mechanics (at the level of griffiths)

MIT OCW has video lectures for its introductory QM course. I find that always makes things easier to learn.
