SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the law of reflection, specifically how to redirect a beam of light using a mirror. To achieve a 90-degree turn of the light beam, the mirror must be positioned at a 45-degree angle relative to the incoming light. This principle is foundational in optics and is confirmed by the provided resource from The Physics Classroom.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of the law of reflection in optics
  • Basic knowledge of angles and geometry
  • Familiarity with light behavior and properties
  • Access to online educational resources for further reading
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the law of reflection in detail using resources like The Physics Classroom
  • Explore practical applications of mirrors in optical devices
  • Learn about different types of mirrors and their reflective properties
  • Investigate the impact of angle variations on light direction
USEFUL FOR

Students studying physics, educators teaching optics, and anyone interested in the practical applications of light reflection.

Hello all,

I've got a question, obviously. I've got a light shining down from directly up above think laser, I want to reflect the light to hit the wall, redirect it 90 degrees. What angle would the mirror need to be to do this? For some reason I'm thinking 45 degrees.

Thanks,

Kevin S. Chambers
