Rendering of formulae very slow

AI Thread Summary
Rendering of equations in forum posts has been reported to be slow, particularly for users on Mozilla Firefox, with some experiencing browser freezes and delays. Users have tried installing MathML fonts and refreshing pages to improve speed, but results vary. The issue appears to be inconsistent, as some users report that rendering has returned to normal after a period of slow performance. Network connection speed does not seem to be a factor, as problems persist across different locations. Overall, while the slow rendering issue has been frustrating, it appears to resolve itself for some users over time.

I don't know, whether this is the right place to ask this technical question. So, moderators, please feel free to move it wherever it fits better.

For some time I realized that, when I write a posting to the forum, it takes a pretty long time to render the equations. I don't precisely know, when this behavior occurred the first time, but before rendering has been very quick. Is there something, I can install locally to make this faster? I'm using Mozilla Firefox as a browser, and I've installed the mathml fonts as a plugin, but this hasn't had any effect on the rendering of postings.

PS: the same is also true for just reading postings, i.e., the formula rendering takes a quite long time after clicking at a posting's link.

I don't have that problem with firefox. Can you try another browser and see if you have the same problem??

I opened up firefox to give this a twirl and the first time I opened a thread it froze my browser and took about ten seconds to load the latex. Subsequent thread openings were much more responsive

May I ask what country you are posting from?

I use firefox and sometimes if the formulae take a while to appear hitting F5 forces the page to refresh and render the formulae. This happens to me just after making a post when it redirects me to my post I've just made. Nothing too serious or annoying though.

I'm posting from Germany, and today the formula rendering is back to normal. It's strange. It's also independent of the browser, I'm using (I checked firefox and konqueror; both under Linux). I first thought it might have to do with the network connection being slow, but then it was the same over several days and independent of whether I'm at home or at the university. Anyway, now everything seems to be back to normal.
