Search Function Issues: Mozilla & PhysicsForums

AI Thread Summary
The search function on Mozilla and PhysicsForums is currently experiencing significant issues, rendering it ineffective for users. Users have reported that specific terms, such as "oscillating," yield no results, despite being present in posts. There is a suggestion that the search database has not been reindexed since the last update, which may be causing older threads to be excluded from search results. One user, cookiemonster, has committed to investigating the possibility of re-indexing the search table. Addressing these search function problems is crucial for improving user experience on the platform.

Is everyone aware of the problems with the search function? In mozilla at least, it basically doesn't work at all. For example, clearly the 9th post in this thread: https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?p=139582#post139582 has the words "oscillating", yet try searching for that word in general physics...I for one do not find anyhting.

I've had similar problems.

Greg mentioned something about not reindexing the search database since the last update, so older threads don't appear in it... or something like that.

I'll look into re-indexing the search table later tonight
