AI Thread Summary
Light travels at 186,000 miles per second, and nothing can exceed this speed, raising the question of the speed of "dark." Dark, defined as the absence of light, occupies space simultaneously but does not have a measurable speed. The concept of "speed of dark" is deemed meaningless, as darkness does not travel; it simply represents the absence of photons. This analogy is similar to questioning the speed of silence or the speed of no traffic, which also lack defined movement. Ultimately, the discussion emphasizes that darkness does not surpass light because it is not a traveling entity.

If light travels at 186,000 miles per second - and in theory nothing can travel faster. What would the speed of "dark" be? Dark occupies all space at the same time! It would seem to me anyway that "dark" would at some point catch up and pass light once the light source was extinguished.

Light is made of photons/electromagnetic waves they both travel at c. Darkness is the absence of photons/electromagnetic waves(This doesn't really happen in the universe ). There is nothing that travels so speed of dark is truly meaningless concept .

This is exactly like asking:
-what is the speed of silence is and why doesn't it overtake sound?
-what is the speed of no traffic and why doesn't it overtake traffic?
etc.

I would like to use a pentaprism with some amount of magnification. The pentaprism will be used to reflect a real image at 90 degrees angle but I also want the reflected image to appear larger. The distance between the prism and the real image is about 70cm. The pentaprism has two reflecting sides (surfaces) with mirrored coating and two refracting sides. I understand that one of the four sides needs to be curved (spherical curvature) to achieve the magnification effect. But which of the...
