Stress intensity factor using Ansys APDL for a 3D plate

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on evaluating the Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) for a 3D plate using ANSYS APDL, specifically under out-of-plane shear forces. The user seeks tutorials or notes, highlighting a gap in available resources for 3D SIF evaluations compared to the abundance of 2D tutorials. There is an emphasis on the relevance of this analysis to brittle material fracture mechanics, particularly linear elastic fracture. Participants encourage the user to engage more actively and utilize ANSYS documentation for further insights. A suggested resource is a paper on three-dimensional SIF computations using ANSYS.

I am trying to evaluate SIF for 3D plate using ansys APDL. Please share tutorial/notes if available.

Can you be more specific in what you're trying to do? What have you researched so far?

Thanks for your reply.

I am trying to evaluate SIF for 3D plate applying out plane shear force. I want to know how SIF is varying along the thickness.

Is this specific to brittle material fracture mechanics?

Yes, I am trying for brittle material fracture (Linear elastic fracture).

I did a little internet searching and found a couple of results, are you having trouble finding the information you need? We need you to actively contribute to this conversation if you're going to get anything out of it. ANSYS also has excellent documentation, what have you found in their help files?

Sure...
I have seen many tutorials for SIF evaluation. But all were for 2D plate. I am trying for 3D plate so that I can get variation of SIF along thickness.
