AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the enjoyment of longer daylight hours, specifically referencing sunlight lasting until 8:07 PM, which justifies waking up later in the day. Participants share excitement about summer solstice celebrations, with mentions of events in Utah and at Stonehenge. A notable point is the discussion of a recent Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) featuring sunrise at Stonehenge, highlighting its historical significance. However, it is noted that the sun no longer aligns with Stonehenge in a significant astronomical way due to the precession of the Earth's axis. The conversation also touches on a light-hearted critique regarding attention to detail in the APOD caption and plans for local celebrations, including a gathering at Bendigo Michels by the watering pool.

I think having sunlight until 8:07PM justifies my waking up at 12:30pm:-p  Any summer solstice celebrations going on?

I found this for Utah and England (at Stonehenge)

The APOD today was a cool shot of sunrise at Stonehenge. Yep, still lined up after all these years!

Typical male - fails to read the caption. "Due to the precession of the Earth's orbital axis over the millennia, the Sun no longer rises over Stonehenge in an astronomically significant way, although the photographer was able to find a good spot where the rising Sun appeared over one of Stonehenge's massive standing stones.

I am SOOO disappointed in you!

Oopsies. Yeah, sometimes I just look at the pretty pictures...

I was going to mention that someone needs to move that rock to the right a bit.

We are going to celebrate the willow up at bendigo michels by the watering pool.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
