I feel like I'm way over my head on this forum site, normally I just watch many a scientific documentary and am considered by most of my friends to be quite the expert. Help? Please?

Physics news on Phys.org
It looks like you are wanting to introduce yourself, so I am moving your post to our General Discussion forum.

Welcome!

Well I watch a lot of scientific documentaries, generally about the universe, alternate dimensions, quantum physics, etc.

Welcome to PF, Piscuit! I think you'll like it here.

Thanks for being so friendly, this forum can be quite an intimidating place.

Oh don't let anything intimidate you. We are all very friendly, but watch out for Evo and the fish, lol.

Welcome to PF. I'm glad to see more new people join!

Well, I guess I'll see you all out there on some open threads.

Evo has fish? Why did I not know about this?

Better question, how could you not know? Let's just say, it could feel weird...very weird.

If Evo asks if you like fish, pick a very small species. Guppies are popular among the cogniscenti.

I see my cat, Dr Foofer, was here last night!

Welcome Piscuit! What is your favorite fish?

But you might be OK with some very, very, very large fish as well and a guppie.

Welcome to the forums Piscuit!

If you're a glutton for punishment or believe pain builds character, pick a big fish.

Thanks for accepting me into this immense society of people who at least appear quite intelligent.

you are only 13?

Yeah, why?

because it says on your profile that you like fixing your car. Would that be your family car or do you have your own car at 13?
I was in Montana. It's really beautiful there. Your lucky to live there don't you think?

I love living here, I get to go skiing every weekend, its practically out my back door. And no, I have my own car, it doesn't run yet but my dad is buying the parts I need and I install them. Currently, we are waiting for a good deal on dual weber carburetors.

What kind of car Piscuit?

  • #25
Brand: Alfa Romeo
Model: 1978 spider
color: primer gray

  • #26
For those of you who are not familiar with the brand Alfa Romeo, it is the precursor to Ferrari. One of the two original engineers with that brand was Enzo Ferrari, who later went on to start the brand Ferrari.

Oh wow, that's awesome. I'd relate an old tv episode where the main character bought an Alfa Romeo Spider, but it wouldn't mean anything, so, nevermind.

On Waynes World two the red sports car he finds in that alley is an Alfa Romeo spider.

You ARE very lucky. Won't tell how old I was getting my first car. And even then it was too early. Second time out I got stuck between two parking posts. Guess I should have gotten a license first.
What fields of science do you like best?

  • #30
um, well, I enjoy electrical engineering and circuits, mechanical engineering, physics, quantum mechanics, its really a very broad spectrum. What about you?

You'll be fine. I joined when I was 13 as well (which was just over a year ago).

Nice.

An Alfa Spider! *Is jealous*

  • #34
It doesn't run, it needs a battery, new fuel tank, and carburetors.

Like you, I am interested in a lot of things. I guess I have the most questions for Astrophysics.

  • #36
Awesome, that happens to be one of the subjects on which I watch documentaries most avidly.

There are some truly wonderful people investing time "up there" in Astrophysics.

  • #38
and I think Mr. *Is jealous* is one of them. :)

  • #39
nice. Thats awesome.

  • #40
I never would have guessed either of you to be under 16 years old. You act very mature for your age! Which is defantly awesome

What are some of the documentaries you watch?

  • #42
Stuff on the science channel, like, "hubble space telescope." that's just one of them, I can't remember the titles of the rest of them. Except for Engineering an Empire on the History International channel.

  • #43
One of these days I'll get cable. I would love to watch the science channel. Sometimes friends record programs for me so I make do with that for now.

  • #44
It's awesome, I love watching documentaries, except for about once every 2 months when I hear about some crazy mathematical or scientific conundrum, and have a mental breakdown. That might have something to do with my confusing personal life and the unfair social hierarchy known as middle school.

  • #45
Middle school is a weird stage of life. At least it was in my experience. Everyone breaks into groups and the groups quickly become stratified. Friends that you had in 5th grade are suddenly no longer your friends because they are part of a different social circle. Any person that has a shred of meanness in them seems to have it cultivated and honed in those years.

Well I'm lucky, I seem to be able to run from group to group, talk to people for 5 minutes and then leave. EVERY GROUP, even the irritating preppy girls. I'm so glad I found this site, its the only place where I can make my voice heard in an intelligent conversation.

Settle in here and enjoy. There is a pretty broad range of people here, and most are laid-back and tolerant. Every Sunday at around 10:00 Central time, Greg fires up the PF chat function, so you can log in and get to know people a little better in real-time. Every Sunday (most, at least) around 4:00 Central time, Greg shows up again and everybody says "Noooooo" because chat is going to be closed. It's fun.

https://www.physicsforums.com/chat/flashchat.php

We don't allow homework questions or serious inquiries about sciences/math to be addressed on chat because chat history is not saved and the material is unavailable to future PF members or those who are not logged into chat. You can talk about politics on chat as long as Evo isn't logged in. Evo does not like political banter. She's OK, but she's been a bit off since someone dropped a house on her sister.:rolleyes:
