The Mysterious Power of Magnetic Energy: Are There Magnetons?

AI Thread Summary
Magnetic energy is generated when an electric current infuses a material, leading to the creation of a magnet. The discussion raises the question of whether "magnetons," theoretical carriers of magnetic energy, exist, but highlights that current physics does not recognize real magnetons. The propagation speed of a magnetic field change is confirmed to be the speed of light, approximately 186,000 miles per second. This speed indicates that changes in the magnetic field are part of electromagnetic waves, which are essentially light. The relationship between electric currents and magnetic fields is central to understanding magnetic energy.

is seems to be generally agreed upon that any "magnet" comes into being because it has been infused by an Electric Current.

so, my question:

so this magnetic energy is imparted to the material by the electric current.

so, then, what is "magnetic energy" ? are there "Magnetons"?

well, i found some references to "magnetons". but none of the "magnetons" in the Physics lexicon
have anything to do with real "Magnetons", which would be the theoretical carriers of Magnetic Energy.

is the speed of the Magnetic Field still 186,000 miles per second, or is it instantaneous?

Theoretical carriers of magnetic energy... that would be photons.

The speed of propagation of changes in the magnetic field is the speed of light, ~186000 mi/s. That's because it is light. Any changing magnetic field also has an electric field component, and this propagation is an electromagnetic wave, or light.

This is from Griffiths' Electrodynamics, 3rd edition, page 352. I am trying to calculate the divergence of the Maxwell stress tensor. The tensor is given as ##T_{ij} =\epsilon_0 (E_iE_j-\frac 1 2 \delta_{ij} E^2)+\frac 1 {\mu_0}(B_iB_j-\frac 1 2 \delta_{ij} B^2)##. To make things easier, I just want to focus on the part with the electrical field, i.e. I want to find the divergence of ##E_{ij}=E_iE_j-\frac 1 2 \delta_{ij}E^2##. In matrix form, this tensor should look like this...
Thread 'Applying the Gauss (1835) formula for force between 2 parallel DC currents'
Please can anyone either:- (1) point me to a derivation of the perpendicular force (Fy) between two very long parallel wires carrying steady currents utilising the formula of Gauss for the force F along the line r between 2 charges? Or alternatively (2) point out where I have gone wrong in my method? I am having problems with calculating the direction and magnitude of the force as expected from modern (Biot-Savart-Maxwell-Lorentz) formula. Here is my method and results so far:- This...
