AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the logical approach to education and understanding reality, particularly in relation to extending human lifespan and addressing aging. It posits that while seeking to prolong life is a significant endeavor, it raises ethical concerns about reproduction. A key point raised is that the main barrier to deeper understanding, or "reading the mind of God," is not merely the brevity of human life but rather a lack of a comprehensive metaphysical framework. The conversation critiques the allocation of resources in scientific research, questioning the emphasis on projects like the Higgs boson discovery compared to foundational studies in quantum mechanics. This highlights a perceived misalignment in prioritizing scientific inquiries that may not directly contribute to a greater understanding of existence.

The "right/logical" approach toward Education?

For those who are interested in attempting to understand the nature of reality, wouldn't it be undeniably correct to try and discover how to prolong the human lifespan or attempt to find a theoretical solution to the problem of aging?- seeing as how it is unlikely that any modern-era scientist will be able to "read the mind of god" within their lifetime?

if you stop people from dying of old age, you have to stop people reproducing too.

In my opinion, main obstacle to "read the mind of God" is not short lifetimes, but a lack of perspective or metaphysical framework. How much are we spending in finding Higgs boson? And how much in studying quantum foundations? That's the problem.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
