Troubleshooting 350A TIG Welder Issues

AI Thread Summary
A 350A TIG welder can cause interference with household systems, such as sprinkler timers and alarms, due to high-frequency (HF) start or arc stabilizer issues. Users report similar problems, including random activation of garage door openers and even cell phones. Solutions include turning off the HF feature, although this complicates aluminum welding, or relocating the welder away from sensitive devices. Grounding techniques may help mitigate interference, but the issue is often inherent to the welder's design. Overall, interference from high-frequency welding equipment is a common challenge faced by users.

I have a large 350A TIG welder in my garage that I like to use. The problem is that sometimes, when I am welding with it, it will do strange things like my cause my sprinkler system to turn on or the alarm on my house will just go off even though it wasn't set in the first place. Any ideas?

your high-frequency start or arc stabilizer is what is doing it, I have the same problem with mine (miller dynasty dx) it turns the light on the garage door opener on and off at random times. There isn't much you can do about it other than turning the HF off (good luck with aluminum) or moving the machine further away from your sprinkler timer and your home alarm. Sorry, I think this is one of those "nature of the beast things" I have also heard stories of the HF in welders killing cell phones too, so watch out for that too

That's funny. That's the same model as mine (miller dynasty 350 DX). Any ideas on dealing with HF interference, anybody? Maybe special grounding?

Hi all I have some confusion about piezoelectrical sensors combination. If i have three acoustic piezoelectrical sensors (with same receive sensitivity in dB ref V/1uPa) placed at specific distance, these sensors receive acoustic signal from a sound source placed at far field distance (Plane Wave) and from broadside. I receive output of these sensors through individual preamplifiers, add them through hardware like summer circuit adder or in software after digitization and in this way got an...
I have recently moved into a new (rather ancient) house and had a few trips of my Residual Current breaker. I dug out my old Socket tester which tell me the three pins are correct. But then the Red warning light tells me my socket(s) fail the loop test. I never had this before but my last house had an overhead supply with no Earth from the company. The tester said "get this checked" and the man said the (high but not ridiculous) earth resistance was acceptable. I stuck a new copper earth...
Thread 'Beauty of old electrical and measuring things, etc.'
Even as a kid, I saw beauty in old devices. That made me want to understand how they worked. I had lots of old things that I keep and now reviving. Old things need to work to see the beauty. Here's what I've done so far. Two views of the gadgets shelves and my small work space: Here's a close up look at the meters, gauges and other measuring things: This is what I think of as surface-mount electrical components and wiring. The components are very old and shows how...
