Verifying a 2.5mm Hole: IR Light Sensor Solution?

AI Thread Summary
To verify the presence of a 2.5mm hole in a flexible part, using an 850nm InfraRed light directed at the hole with an IR light sensor positioned nearby is a proposed solution. Participants suggest that various manufacturers, including KEYENCE, offer compact photosensors suitable for this application. Additionally, a vision sensor is recommended for its programmable detection capabilities through pixel isolation. This approach could enhance accuracy in detecting the hole's presence despite potential movement due to part flexing. Overall, leveraging IR sensors or vision technology appears to be effective for this verification task.

I have a part with a 2.5mm hole that sits inside a fixture (I need to verify hole presence), the hole can move anywhere around the slotted area due to part flexing, install force, etc.

One idea I had was point an 850nm InfraRed light from the other side at the hole, then mount an IR light sensor near the slot. Does an IR light sensor exist for an application like this? Any other ideas? Thanks!

KEYENCE makes a range of very tiny photosensors with fiberoptic leads for applications like this. Many other manufacturers, too.

I think its great idea...

My water meter is submerged under water for about 95% of the year. Today I took a photograph of the inside of my water meter box because today is one of the rare days that my water meter is not submerged in water. Here is the photograph that I took of my water meter with the cover on: Here is a photograph I took of my water meter with the cover off: I edited the photograph to draw a red circle around a knob on my water meter. Is that knob that I drew a red circle around my meter...
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
