AI Thread Summary
Vr refers to the volume ratio, often associated with the compression ratio in thermodynamics, particularly in the context of the Otto cycle. It is used in calculations involving ideal gases and can help determine internal energy values. Users expressed confusion over its definition and application, noting that while their texts provided Vr values, they did not explain its significance. The discussion highlighted the need for clarification on Vr's role in thermodynamic equations and its relevance in engineering software like EES. Understanding Vr is essential for solving problems related to internal energy in thermodynamic cycles.

what is Vr... I know how to get Vr from my text but not sure what it is and what its used for...Im trying to find values for internal energy for an otto cycle question...im working on EES but only know how to get the values for Vr from the text

what is Vr?
Is it some function in EES? or is it the compression ratio?

I think it is used in an ideal gas formula and is used also in calculating for properties in the otto cycle...I was just curious because I had a homework problem where the answer guide used Vr but the text did not use Vr in any of its examples even though it had a list of Vr values. I don't know what Vr is called either... Good thing the final didn't have a problem like that on it

Doesn't ring any bells off hand. I'll look through some Thermo text's and see what I can find...although it should be in your text if it uses it.

My water meter is submerged under water for about 95% of the year. Today I took a photograph of the inside of my water meter box because today is one of the rare days that my water meter is not submerged in water. Here is the photograph that I took of my water meter with the cover on: Here is a photograph I took of my water meter with the cover off: I edited the photograph to draw a red circle around a knob on my water meter. Is that knob that I drew a red circle around my meter...
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
