AI Thread Summary
The discussion highlights pride in South Africa's achievements, including its favorable climate, friendly populace, and significant contributions to global democracy. A key focus is the rising demand for platinum catalysts due to the shift towards hydrogen fuel cell technology in vehicles, with South Africa possessing approximately 86% of the world's platinum supply. However, concerns are raised about the current limitations of fuel cell technology, particularly the need for a warm-up period before operation, which could hinder the adoption of fuel cell cars. The conversation also touches on potential future challenges, including the possibility of negative international perceptions of South Africa.

Aah, I'm so proud to be South African. Great weather, Friendliest (and hottest people), Madiba, Great scenery, The world's first privately sponsored space tourst, The world's BEST democracy and now we're going to be the one's "driving" the world (Ja, that pun is quite weak :-p )

Anyhows, it seems that since the world is moving to Hydrogen fuel cells for cars, Platinum catalysts will be in high demand AND WE GIT 86%-odd of the worlds Pt. Woohooo!

Enough bragging here - nice article to read though - kinda points us in the direction the worlds going to go. I'm thinking that some world super power will be "colonising" us in 50 years time. Oh well!

I wonder when we can expect to see the bad press saying SA is a dehumanising dictatorship and needs to be "liberated". :P

Don't celebrate yet. There seems to be a big problem with the fuel cell technology in automotive applications: they take 5 minutes of driving around in circles to warm up. If they don't overcome this, it's going to kill the fuel cell car.

Every day we learn new things. Sometimes it's just a small fact or realization. No matter how trivial or random, let's start recording our daily lessons. Please start off with "Today I learned". Keep commentary to a minimum and just LIKE posts. I'll start! Today I learned that you clean up a white hat by spraying some cleaner with bleach on it (rinse before putting it back on your head!)
