WH 9/11 guidlines snub Isreal

  1. According to the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/30/us/politics/30terror.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1

The White House has issued detailed guidelines to government officials on how to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, with instructions to honor the memory of those who died on American soil but also to recall that Al Qaeda and other extremist groups have since carried out attacks elsewhere in the world, from Mumbai to Manila.

“As we commemorate the citizens of over 90 countries who perished in the 9/11 attacks, we honor all victims of terrorism, in every nation around the world,” the overseas guidelines state. “We honor and celebrate the resilience of individuals, families, and communities on every continent, whether in New York or Nairobi, Bali or Belfast, Mumbai or Manila, or Lahore or London.”

Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa didn't seem to make the list. What exactly is the intended message for Israel? for the world?

  3. I don't think Israel was being snubbed - Washington and Pennsylvania weren't mentioned either.

I do think it's incorrect to water down the event to include all terrorism around the world - this was the single greatest specific attack on US soil since Pearl Harbor. What next - IMO -holding future ceremonies at other locations?

Looks like they were going for alliteration, not rhyme!
