Other What are some recommended books for preparing for the ISI entrance exam?

AI Thread Summary
For preparing for the BMath entrance exam for ISI, it's essential to build a solid foundation in mathematics over the year available for study. The user already possesses "Plane Trigonometry" by S.L. Loney and "Challenge and Thrill of Pre-College Mathematics," which are considered good resources for foundational concepts. Additionally, the ISI's own publication, TOMATO (Test of Mathematics at the 10+2 Level), is recommended for targeted preparation. The discussion highlights the need for reliable book suggestions that are accessible and effective, emphasizing the importance of firsthand experiences with the materials. Overall, focusing on well-regarded texts and resources that align with the exam's requirements is crucial for successful preparation.

I need some books to prepare and build the basics. So considering there's approximately an year to prepare, please give some good book suggestions that are not too rare and too hard to find in bookstores
Also, I alredy have
1. Plane Trigonometry by S.L lonely
2. Challenge and thrill of precollege mathematics
Are these good for preparation?

Thankyou in advance 🙏

I was hoping for a reply from someone who has tried these books. Because you know, Many sites give different books, and I don't know which are actually good and usefull. Thanks anyways.

I think the ISI publishes their own book, TOMATO (Test of Mathematics at the 10+2 Level)

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
I’ve heard that in some countries (for example, Argentina), the curriculum is structured differently from the typical American program. In the U.S., students usually take a general physics course first, then move on to a textbook like Griffiths, and only encounter Jackson at the graduate level. In contrast, in those countries students go through a general physics course (such as Resnick-Halliday) and then proceed directly to Jackson. If the slower, more gradual approach is considered...
