A user with a background in semiconductor transport physics is seeking recommendations for textbooks on quantum optics, specifically mentioning the Jaynes-Cummings model. Suggestions include a resource from the University of Rostock that offers English PDFs and Gerry & Knight's book for beginners. Additionally, the Python toolbox Qutip is recommended for practical learning through examples related to the Jaynes-Cummings model. Other notable textbook recommendations include "Quantum Optics" by J. C. Garrison and R. Y. Chiao, and "Quantum Optics" by M. O. Scully and M. S. Zubairy.

I just got put on a project involving quantum optics, but have a background in semiconductor transport physics/electronic structure of materials. Does anybody know of a good textbook in this area, covering topics such as, say, the Jaynes-Cummings model?

There are several that come to mind, try starting here:

Gerry&Knight's book is quite good if you are are beginner

https://www.amazon.com/dp/052152735X/?tag=pfamazon01-20

It is also worth downloading a copy of the python toolbox Qutip; running the examples will teach you a lot about e.g. the J-C model.

Thanks, these both seem useful

May favorites for Quantum Optics are

J. C. Garrison, R. Y. Chiao, Quantum Optics, Oxford University Press (2008)
M. O. Scully, M. S. Zubairy, Quantum Optics, Cambridge University Press (1997)

Im currently reading mathematics for physicists by Philippe Dennery and André Krzywicki, and I’m understanding most concepts however I think it would be better for me to get a book on complex analysis or calculus to better understand it so I’m not left looking at an equation for an hour trying to figure out what it means. So here comes the split, do I get a complex analysis book? Or a calculus book? I might be able to Borrow a calculus textbook from my math teacher study that for a bit and...
