What Career Path Should I Pursue with Talents in Physics and Computers?

AI Thread Summary
A grade 11 student with a strong academic background, particularly in math and physics, expresses a deep interest in physics and computer programming, having self-taught various programming languages. Despite aspirations to work at prestigious institutions like CERN or NASA, concerns about job stability and salary in physics lead to consideration of aeronautics engineering as a more viable career path. So I am a pretty normal grade 11 kid, I have good grades (92.5% average and all level 1 courses), I'm a natural at maths and physics and I'm already weeks ahead of my physics class. My true talent is probably with computers, I taught myself a bunch of languages, like Python, Java ...

I'm incredibly interested in anything physics related. I spend a lot of my free time reading books like Einstein for Dummies, Brief History of Time and A Stubbornly Persistent Illusion. But I have a problem, my dream job would be to work at a huge facility like CERN but the reality is, is that, that probably won't happen. My dad is a civil engineer and I come from a middle-upper class family in eastern Canada, and a good salary means a lot to me and I feel like a career in physics won't be able to give me this! Aeronautics engineering is also something I'm seriously considering, I have been always really interested in the Apollo missions and the Mars exploration missions since I have been really young. The industry is going to really kick-start within the next decade or two so it seems like a good possibility. Working for NASA developing new spacecraft is a childhood dream but like a CERN career path, it seems really unlikely!

I need your advice on a possible career path, something attainable! Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks alot!

If I had it all to do over again I'd be a drug dealer.

I don't know if anyone on here works for any of the well known defense companies of your country, whichever country you are from?? Also, if you choose to work in one, do you think the engineering education provide from your school would adequately prepare you for the job. What do I mean by that? Well if you work at say Lockheed Martin and you work in the latest iteration of a missile or if you work at Pratt & Whitney, they assign you to work in the team helping out with building the jet...
Hello, I graduated from undergrad a few years ago with a Major in Physics and minor in Electrical Engineering. I tried to get experience working on and testing circuits through my professor who studied Neutrinos, however covid caused the opportunity to go away and I graduated with no experience or internships. I have attempted to break into the engineering industry with no success. Right now I am considering going for a Masters in Electrical Engineering and I need advice on if this would be...
So lately, my interest in the realm of optics/optoelectronics/photonics engineering has grown and I have started to seriously consider pursuing a career in the field. I have done a bit of career research and also have done some learning on the side to gather more knowledge on these topics. However, I have some questions on what a career in these fields would look like, and I wanted to find out more about this area to know what I would be getting myself into if I did make the choice to pursue...
