SUMMARY

The speed of a table tennis ball is influenced by several key factors including its small size, low friction, and reduced air resistance. These characteristics allow the ball to achieve high velocities during play. While the physics of table tennis shares similarities with ground tennis, the unique dynamics of spin and speed in table tennis require specific consideration. For detailed insights, refer to the provided resource on the physics and mathematics of table tennis.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic physics principles, particularly motion and forces.
  • Familiarity with the concept of spin and its effects on ball trajectory.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics, specifically air resistance and its impact on moving objects.
  • Basic grasp of table tennis rules and gameplay mechanics.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the physics of spin in table tennis, focusing on Magnus effect.
  • Explore the impact of ball material and design on speed and performance.
  • Study the role of player technique in generating speed and spin.
  • Investigate comparative studies between table tennis and ground tennis ball dynamics.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for sports scientists, table tennis coaches, players looking to improve their game, and anyone interested in the physics of sports dynamics.

Hi all!
Its been a while since i post question but here i came t ask one.
1.I am doing research on the physics of table tennis and i want to focuse only on the spining of the ball and the speed of the ball but i have some problem on the speed of the ball .the problem i have is what makes the table tennis ball to go faster (speed).i am thinking because the table tennis ball is small and also the ball doesn't have much friction and also they are playing with less air resistance.

but this all look the same for ground tennis because still out side tennis has equvalent speed as table tennis.

please give me some idea on the speed of table tennis.or where could i research.

thank you .
