What is the 2015th decimal number in the division 2015 by 7

In summary, the 2015th decimal number in the division 2015 by 7 is 2. This can be determined by dividing 2015 by 6, which gives a non-finite answer, and then dividing 2016 by 6, which gives a remainder of 2. This means that the 2015th number in the recurring pattern of 857142 is the preceding number, which is 2. However, this reasoning is contradicted by the fact that dividing the 24th number by 6 also gives a remainder of 2. Therefore, there may not be a simpler or clearer way to determine the 2015th decimal number in this division.

What is the 2015th decimal number in the division 2015 by 7?

This is how I did it but is there an simpler way of showing this...

I did 2015/7 = 287.857142 857142 857142 857142 ...

As we have a recurring decimal for the numbers 857142, I divided 2015 by 6 which gives me a non finite answer so I then divided 2016 by 6 = 336. Therefore I concluded that the 2016th number must be an 8 and to answer the question which is 2015th number it must be the preceding number in the recurring pattern so it's 2.

Am I correct please and could anyone explain a clearer or simpler way, if it exist. Thank you :)

By you reasoning, what is the 24th number ?

  • #3
As there are 6 numbers in the sequence 857142 and 24/6 = 4 then the 24th number is 2

  • #4
So what about the 2016 th number ?

  • #5
Well it must be 2 as 2016/24 = 84

Do you see the contradiction in your two results?

1. What is the 2015th decimal number in the division 2015 by 7?

The 2015th decimal number in the division 2015 by 7 is 287.85714285714285714285714.

2. How is the 2015th decimal number calculated in the division 2015 by 7?

The 2015th decimal number is calculated by dividing 2015 by 7, which results in a quotient of 287 and a remainder of 4. The quotient is then added to the decimal point, followed by the decimal part of the remainder (4/7 = 0.57142857142857). This gives us the final decimal number of 287.85714285714285714285714.

3. Is the 2015th decimal number in the division 2015 by 7 a repeating or terminating decimal?

The 2015th decimal number in the division 2015 by 7 is a repeating decimal. This is because the division of 2015 by 7 results in a non-terminating decimal (287.857142857...) due to the remainder of 4.

4. How does the 2015th decimal number in the division 2015 by 7 compare to the previous decimal numbers?

The 2015th decimal number is the last non-repeating decimal in the division 2015 by 7. The decimal numbers before it (0.57142857142857 and 0.85714285714286) are the repeating decimals that make up the pattern of the division.

5. Can the 2015th decimal number in the division 2015 by 7 be simplified or written as a fraction?

The 2015th decimal number cannot be simplified or written as a fraction. It is already in its simplest form as a decimal number. However, it can be expressed as a mixed number (287 4/7).
