What is the best math to take with highschool physics?

AI Thread Summary
Taking Pre-Calculus alongside Physics is generally recommended to prepare for the mathematical concepts involved in the subject. Many students find that a solid foundation in Algebra II and Geometry, along with some Pre-Calculus, is sufficient for a standard Physics course. However, if considering an AP Physics class, stronger Pre-Calculus skills are advisable. Students can often test out of Pre-Calculus to advance directly to Calculus, typically requiring a meeting with a school counselor and achieving a minimum score on a placement test. This approach allows motivated students to accelerate their math education effectively.

This year I've taken Algebra II and Chemistry(I'm a sophmore in high school). Next year I plan on taking physics and either Pre-Cal or Trig. Which math is better to take so that I can really be prepared for the math in physics? Btw do schools allow you to skip precal and go straight to calculus? I'm asking because I've sort of become addicted to math and have learned most topics covered in a precal text I've been studying on my own time.

You have to test out, I'm doing the same thing for Alg II so my sophomore year I will be in Pre-Calc. Basically all you have to do is schedule a meeting with you assigned counselor. He/She will give you a little form to fill out and the class book to take home and study the sections (they give you a list of the sections/material on the test), then you proceed to come back in August (I think), and take the test. My school requires getting an 85% or better on the test ir order to pass. Next year I'm taking Physics and Chemistry along with Pre-Calc as the math course. The reason for this is because many people have recommended that Pre-Calc be taken alongside Physics. Also, the numerous textbooks that I've scammed through state that the required math skills are Alg II, Geometry, and some Pre-Calc, this is assuming that you will be taking the Alg II based Physics class. Which you probably are (unless is the straight AP one, not the Pre-AP), so in that case you won't be required to know all that much Pre-Calc, the basics at most, but if you decide to take the AP course instead of the regular or Pre-AP one then I would highly recommend gaining strong Pre-Calc skills over the summer, testing out, and take AP Calc your Junior year.

Hope this helped!

Thanks a lt haha it was actually pretty helpful :)

Bit Britain-specific but I was wondering, what's the best path to take for A-Levels out of the following (I know Y10 seems a bit early to be thinking about A-levels, but my choice will impact what I do this year/ in y11) I (almost) definitely want to do physics at University - so keep that in mind... The subjects that I'm almost definitely going to take are Maths, Further Maths and Physics, and I'm taking a fast track programme which means that I'll be taking AS computer science at the end...
After a year of thought, I decided to adjust my ratio for applying the US/EU(+UK) schools. I mostly focused on the US schools before, but things are getting complex and I found out that Europe is also a good place to study. I found some institutes that have professors with similar interests. But gaining the information is much harder than US schools (like you have to contact professors in advance etc). For your information, I have B.S. in engineering (low GPA: 3.2/4.0) in Asia - one SCI...
I graduated with a BSc in Physics in 2020. Since there were limited opportunities in my country (mostly teaching), I decided to improve my programming skills and began working in IT, first as a software engineer and later as a quality assurance engineer, where I’ve now spent about 3 years. While this career path has provided financial stability, I’ve realized that my excitement and passion aren’t really there, unlike what I felt when studying or doing research in physics. Working in IT...
