What is the composite power of multiple RF signals?

Click For Summary
To calculate the composite power at the input of an RF distribution system, the total power is the sum of the individual signals measured in milliwatts, assuming the signals are incoherent and at different frequencies. It is important not to add the signals in decibels, as this would yield incorrect results. Users can measure each signal with a spectrum analyzer to obtain the necessary values. The discussion confirms that summing the signals in milliwatts is the correct approach for this calculation. Accurate measurement is essential for effective RF system performance.

I need to calculate the composite power at the input of an RF distribution system, is it just the sum of the signals in milliwatts at the input? I can measure each individual signal with an a spectrum analyser but I do not have a power meter to anable measurement of the total power.

Yes. I presume the signals are incoherent eg different frequencies, so they add on a power basis. Do not add them in decibels.

Thanks for the confirmation tech99.

Thread 'I thought it was only Amazon that sold unsafe junk'
I grabbed an under cabinet LED light today at a big box store. Nothing special. 18 inches in length and made to plug several lights together. Here is a pic of the power cord: The drawing on the box led me to believe that it would accept a standard IEC cord which surprised me. But it's a variation of it. I didn't try it, but I would assume you could plug a standard IEC cord into this and have a double male cord AKA suicide cord. And to boot, it's likely going to reverse the hot and...
