SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the qualitative description of the magnetic field inside a long solenoid. It emphasizes the constructive and destructive addition of the induced magnetic field components (H components) from each loop of the solenoid. The conversation highlights the importance of tightly wound coils in determining the field characteristics both inside and outside the solenoid. This foundational understanding is crucial for anyone studying electromagnetism.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electromagnetic theory
  • Familiarity with solenoid construction and properties
  • Knowledge of magnetic field concepts
  • Basic principles of vector addition in physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the mathematical derivation of the magnetic field inside a solenoid
  • Learn about the Biot-Savart Law and its application to solenoids
  • Explore the differences between ideal and real solenoids
  • Investigate the effects of solenoid coil spacing on magnetic field strength
USEFUL FOR

Students of physics, educators teaching electromagnetism, and anyone interested in the principles of magnetic fields in solenoids.

hi,
My homework is : Qualitative description of field due to long solenoid.
I think I post in wrong box, that box is about the calculus problem, right?
But I'm a new member and I don't know where to post my question. So if I'm wrong, I'm sorry, please answer me once and tell me the right box.
Thank you.

For the question you have to think about how the individual induced H components for each loop of the solenoid add up constructively and destructively for both outside and inside the solenoid. I think it helps if you also assume that the coils of the solenoid are tightly wound.
