What is the Role of Physics in Understanding the Human Condition?

My academic background is in philosophy rather than in physics but I'm interested in the human being per se, which, to my mind, seems to constitute something of a synthesis of the quartet of science, art, philosophy and religion. My particular interest in physics is on this account. I hope that doesn't break any rules here. :)
