AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on finding specific vendors or catalogs for sensors needed in a university design project, particularly those that can monitor sound and vibrations. The user emphasizes the importance of quality over cost, as the university will cover expenses, and seeks equipment that is more advanced than basic alternatives. They require sensitive sensors capable of detecting subtle changes, like the sound of a door opening. A suggestion was made to check the RS Components catalog, which is known for providing such equipment quickly, especially in certain regions like the Netherlands. The conversation highlights the need for reliable sources for specialized sensors in academic settings.

Hello everyone, as the title suggests I'm in need of finding some specific vendors or catalogs for a few particular items needed in my design project.

My University will be taking care of the bill, so while I would appreciate modest cost expenses, it would benefit my college to have some of these items for future students, and is of a better quality than legos :).

With that being said (sorry for being lengthy), I am in finding myself in need of sensors able to monitor sound, and some sensors/equipment able to monitor vibrations. Microphones can work as long as they aren't massive, electrostatic or condenser mics would do just nicely. But as I have said...I am having a bit of trouble locating where to buy these :(. Could anyone direct me to a website or give me a couple phone numbers of some vendors that might have some of this equipment? I'd really appreciate it!

Edit: I'm sorry, I should have specified a bit more about the scope of their requirements...they are not being used for an industrial scale, and the dB threshold is very fine...it needs to be sensitive enough to accurately measure the dB from simply opening a door (that's about the the scale of this project), and a sensor device able to detect the same vibrations from said impact.

Have you tried the RS catalogue? Google RS and click on RS components. I do not work for or have shares in RS.

Good suggestion, that's also where our lab gets components like this ;) It might depend on where you live though, in the Netherlands we get the order within 1 day.

Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...

My water meter is submerged under water for about 95% of the year. Today I took a photograph of the inside of my water meter box because today is one of the rare days that my water meter is not submerged in water. Here is the photograph that I took of my water meter with the cover on: Here is a photograph I took of my water meter with the cover off: I edited the photograph to draw a red circle around a knob on my water meter. Is that knob that I drew a red circle around my meter...
