AI Thread Summary
For a thorough understanding of the Lamb shift and its implications in quantum electrodynamics (QED), two highly recommended texts are Landau and Lifshitz's "Course on Theoretical Physics, Vol 4" and S. Weinberg's "Quantum Theory of Fields, Vol. 1." While Landau and Lifshitz provide a solid application-focused treatment of the topic, they are noted for their older methods, which may not be ideal for beginners in QED. Weinberg's work is also recognized for its comprehensive approach to quantum field theory, making it a valuable resource for those studying the Lamb shift and its effects on atomic energy levels.

What will you suggest someone for books which provide discussion on the Lamb shift (QED correction) of atomic energy levels?

You find a very good treatment on this in both

Landau, Lifshitz, Course on Theoretical Physics, Vol 4 (although not my preferred source to learn QED in the beginning, because it's pretty old-fashioned concerning the methods, but it's great for the applications treated there)

S. Weinberg, Quantum Theory of Fields, Vol. 1

For the following four books, has anyone used them in a course or for self study? Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
