Who is willing to shell out thousands to hear Bristol Palin speak?

AI Thread Summary
Bristol Palin is entering the speaking circuit, commanding fees between $15,000 and $30,000 per appearance, as confirmed by her attorney. She is available for a variety of events, including conferences and fundraisers, focusing on topics such as abstinence and pro-life issues. The discussion raises skepticism about the value of her speaking engagements, questioning who would pay such amounts given her notoriety primarily stems from her teenage pregnancy and her mother's political fame. Critics highlight the irony of her advocating for abstinence while profiting from her past, suggesting that her appearances could be perceived as comedic rather than serious. Comparisons are made to other celebrities who command high fees for appearances, but the consensus leans towards disbelief regarding her worthiness as a speaker on abstinence. The conversation also touches on broader themes of celebrity culture and the motivations behind hiring speakers with personal experiences related to their topics.

Who on Earth would pay $15,000 to $30,000 to hear her speak? Why?

Bristol Palin to hit speakers' circuit

JUNEAU, Alaska – Bristol Palin is hitting the speakers' circuit and will command between $15,000 and $30,000 for each appearance, Palin family attorney Thomas Van Flein said Monday.

Van Flein confirmed a report by celebrity news website RadarOnline that the daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has signed with Single Source Speakers. He added her exact fees will depend on factors such as which group she's addressing and what she must to do prepare.

Bristol Palin, 19, is listed on the speaking group's website as available for conferences, fundraisers, special events and holidays, as well as women's, youth, abstinence and "pro-life" programs.

The funniest comment from someone from the link provided is, "I wish her grandmother had used birth control."

...wow...just, wow...

Nice work if you can get it!

And she does have a kid to support.

She's "famous" for getting pregnant and being the daughter of someone famous and has the audacity to ask for that much money to talk to people about abstinence of all things.
At best that sounds like the premise for a comedy skit.

I'd look for it on SNL next weekend. Too good to pass up, and Lorne Michaels is not one to let current affairs get stale.

Paris Hilton gets paid $100,000's just to show up at a club on opening night
It also does make sense you would get someone like her to speak at something like that. Who do you pay when you want to have a lecture on politics other then someone who has been in politics? Who do you pay to give a lecture on drug abuse? Someone who has never touched drugs in their life? It makes perfect sense. Hopefully you don't have it in your mind that she'll come on stage dressed in a cheerleading outfit yelling "no sex = great sex!" (king of the hill reference if anyone gets it...) like something you'd see in a cartoon.

She can tell young girls, "I get paid $30,000 because I got knocked up at 17 and my mom's famous. You get nothing if you get knocked up because your mom's not famous". Yeah, that's quite a motivational speech.

She's a celebrity in her own right.

Following your examples, who would you get to talk about abstinence? Someone who has abstained.

Do you have laws on disclosing or limiting political contributions?
It can be a good way for companies to funnel money to a candidate in return for future favorable relations.

There have been rumors to that effect.

They are a bit like a screen door on a submarine or a picture window in a tank.

Mother wants best for her kids that's all. And Sarah Palin seems to be a good mother despite her drawbacks.
