AI Thread Summary
Users are experiencing access issues with the Physics Forums, specifically encountering a "403 Forbidden" error and a "404 Not Found" error related to the server. There is confusion about the existence of two separate forums, with some users only able to see one, leading to concerns about lost posts and responses. It is suggested that posts made on a temporary server may not be visible on the permanent server, raising questions about whether these posts will be merged or lost entirely. Users express frustration over being unable to access the forum and the difficulties caused by the server issues.

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /cgi-bin/ on this server. :frown:

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/1.3.37 Server at www.pf1.physicsforums.com.zz[/URL] Port 80

Yep, there was a problem last night.

Could that explain why there are two Physics forums and some people can only see one (or in your case you keep goign through the looking glass. Please tell us all what it's like to travel between dimensions). WOudl it also explain why I thought I had a response to a post and today it up and disappeared?

Any posts made to the "non-permanent" server can't be seen once you connect to the permanent server. I don't know if they will be moved and merged or lost forever.

Being stuck between two servers is no fun.

I couldn't even get on this morning.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...

I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
