Why does (e^{j ω})^{-2} equal e^{-2ω} not e^{-2j ω}?

I'm told that [itex](e^{j \omega})^{-2} = e^{-2\omega}[/itex]...?
I thought by the property [itex](a^b)^c=a^{bc}[/itex] it should equal [itex]e^{-2j\omega}[/itex]
What am I missing?
